It is the duty of Childcare and Wellness Clinics to ensure that a patient’s personal information is kept private and is accessible only to authorized persons. Confidential information in this regard are considered oral, written, electronic which may includes the following:

  • Name, address or telephone number
  • Race, national or ethnic origin, colour, or religious beliefs or associations
  • Age, sex, sexual orientation, marital status or family status
  • Fingerprints, blood type or inheritable characteristics
  • Health care history, including a physical or mental disability
  • Information about their educational history
  • Personal views or opinions
  • Information prepared as part of pending or ongoing litigation, law enforcement

Health information in Childcare and Wellness Clinics are considered confidential except otherwise stated by relevant authorities with legal backings. The following are some of the categories entitled to patient information from Childcare and Wellness Clinics:

Access

Authorized individuals who have the right to know, in order to access to personal or confidential information in Childcare and Wellness Clinics include the parents and spouse (or as agreed by the patient in cases of adults) as the case may be. This would include viewing information on paper or in electronic form, or through dialogue. Others include:

  1. Agents

    Any third party individual directly/indirectly associated with the patient in a business relationship; including but not limited to: Health Management Organizations, healthcare professionals, students, researchers.

  2. Legal Authorities

    Any third party individual directly/indirectly associated with the patient authorized by the Law governing the Federal Republic of Nigeria in a legal relationship; including but not limited to: court orders, spouses
